United Methodist Women Reading Program
What do you like to read – adventure stories, love stories,
historical novels, mysteries, biographies, self help books,
social action narratives, children’s stories or spiritual
growth books?
The United Methodist Women Reading Program books are just
what you are looking for.
We have books for you to read in all these areas.
The purpose of the Reading Program is to encourage United
Methodist Women and others to become knowledgeable and
active in missions, to increase sensitivity to all human
beings, to encourage critical thinking about current issues,
and to relate and apply scripture to Christian life today.
Each year the UMW receives a list of recommended books
categorized into four areas:
Education for Mission, Nurturing for Community,
Social Action and Spiritual Growth.
Persons who wish to participate in one of the Reading
Program Plans may choose from any of four plans:

United Methodist Women members are women who believe
the first step to being in mission with women, children and
youth is mission education.
They actively read and study about various parts of
the world and issues faced by their neighbors near and far.
The Reading Program is a key piece of this mission
education.
A selection of the 2009 suggested books has been
purchased and are located on the shelves in the hall between
the church Fellowship Room and the Preschool.
We will eventually include on this website the list
of books that we have in our library from 2004-2009.
Naturally, we don’t have every book from the approved
list in our library so you may order others by going to
www.missionresourcecenter.org
or by calling
1-800-305-9857.
Please report your completion of your plan to your Circle
leader by the end of 2009 so she can provide names to
Carolyn Burkholder, Chairperson for Program Resources, for
inclusion in the conference report and the annual district
meeting.
