Philosophy and
Goals
This Preschool Program is a non-profit, professional
ministry of Waleska United
Methodist
Church, established to
meet the needs of children of its congregation and
the surrounding community.
It is the mission of our Preschool Program to
inspire children in their day-to-day learning to
worship God, grow in their faith in Christ Jesus,
and serve others.
We believe that each child is a gift from God and
should have the opportunity to develop physically,
intellectually, emotionally, socially, and
spiritually.
Engaging learning opportunities will be
provided in these areas through developmentally
appropriate experiences.
We also believe that each child is a unique
individual with special talents and abilities, and
we strive to instill a positive self-image and
self-confidence in his or her own abilities.
This can be achieved by intentionally
providing a learning environment that promotes
success.
We believe that a teacher should encourage a child’s
natural desire for learning by providing love,
support, enthusiasm, and understanding to each
child.
Every opportunity can be a teachable moment to
engage a child’s curiosity in the world around
him/her.
The goals of our program are to nurture and develop
the following:
-
the ability to work and play happily with others in
a group
-
the ability to communicate his/her own personal
needs and observations
-
the ability to possess all the skills necessary to
enter elementary school
-
the ability to express a respect for others and for
self
-
the ability to express a positive self-image
-
the ability to feel safe as a loved and cared-for
child of God
-
the ability to be aware of self, home, school,
community, and the Lord Jesus Christ
-
the ability to appropriately respond to each child’s
natural curiosity about all things
-
an understanding that God made each one, and Jesus
loves each one
With God’s guidance, parental support, and a
dedication to the professional ministry of caring
for children, the Preschool Program of Waleska UMC
is committed to achieving these goals.
